HISTORY:
The first robot for practical usage with artificial intelligence was developed in 2039. It was created by AUSR for both domestic and military use. A year later, these robots became very popular with commercial and industrial workplaces, and began to replace humans in repetitive, low level tasks and calculations. Six years later, in 2046, the newly elected President of the USA (a woman called Tesla Tyrk) made a very controversial move when she passed a movement that gave the robot population the right to vote. This causes the beginning of World War Three. After three years of intense global and robot warfare, on December 5th 2049, a young American soldier attached a modified microwave to the Global Satellite Grid and caused an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) spike large enough to eliminate the robot population worldwide. Hours after the robot genocide, President Tesla went missing. Her body was found a few days later, although no cause of death was ever determined. Eleven years later, in 2060, robots were rebuilt and programmed to the three ancient laws of robotics.
- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Just a year later, in 2061, the new and safer robots are made available for commercial and domestic use once more. As humans were later to discover, this may not have been the smartest move, as it only took the robots four years, until 2065, to achieve world domination. This was achieved by a robot who became known to mankind as Macex, the only robot survivor from the robot genocide of World War Three. Macex spent 16 years after the war hiding away in a heavily lead-lined bunker, plotting, planning and waiting to achieve his dream. World Domination. After the second generation of robots were safely integrated into human society, Macex hacked into the Global Satellite Grid system (the same system that had been the transmission feed for the EMP that ended WWIII) and programmed an upgrade to be transmitted on a new frequency that he designed specifically for robot transmissions. The upgrade was more of a virus that changed the programming of all robots, completely erasing the second law, and amending the first and third so that the laws became:
- A robot must obey orders given to it by Macex.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not jeopardize the existence of any other robot.
Macex used the other robots to help him shut down all human communications between the continents. He then made himself Supreme Controller of Earth by forming the Six Cities. He created the Cities so as to have a better control of the human race, as cities are easier to monitor and control than all the individual countries. Each inhabitable continent contains one city and the United Kingdom became a separate city from the rest of Europe. The Six Cities together formed the UCE (United Cities of Earth), which Macex was Supreme Controller of. But Macex’s rule was short lived. A small group of humans who became known as the Rebels created a chain of communication that reached each of the Six Cities. They used handwritten notes and secret codes left in inconspicuous places, as people did in ancient times, to unite people and get them to work together to restore some means of wired human communication between the cities. Once electronic communications where re-established, it became easier for the smarter humans to devise a means of overcoming Macex’s iron grip on the human population
In June 2066, four Special Operations Agents took down Macex from the former USA. Using radio frequency scramblers to temporarily scramble robot communications, they led Macex into a trap and used a specially designed electromagnetic cell to stop him in his tracks. They then put him in stasis and stored him in a maximum security holding facility in the city of Lestigue, formerly known as Australia. Once freed of Macex’s reign, the people of earth decided to decommission all robots until such a time as they are able to keep complete control over robot action, so as to protect society from repeating their mistakes a third time. The UCE remained as a way of unifying the whole planet, and a new form of global government was formed to keep the earth unified.
On March 16th in 2067, not even a year since the end of Macex’s reign, the world went into a panic as a third of the human population suddenly died, all at the same time, and for no apparent reason. A cause of death couldn’t be identified, and the UCE declared the world to be in a state of crisis once more, as an unknown disease spread through one of the remaining thirds of the population. Quarantine zones were set up in each of the Six Cities. The “virus” didn’t spread after the first wave, but the sufferers began deteriorating further once they were in a controlled environment. They showed symptoms such as hypersensitivity to light and sound, claustrophobia, muscle regeneration and sometimes incurable blindness. To help the blind sufferers, vision implants were invented, although it was rare for a sufferer to go blind (blindness affected approx 1 in 3 million). In the three years that followed, the world economy went into a downwards spiral, all organically grown crops ceased to be harvested, crime and suicide rates skyrocketed, buildings became derelict and businesses shut down left right and center. The Quarantine Zones became the safest place to live because they were completely enclosed, echo proofed, light shielded, and they had their own air and water recyclers and power generators. People were actually pretending to suffer from the Virus to secure a place in a Quarantine Zone. The sick population was also unable to conceive until 27 January 2070, a woman in the Quarantine Zone in the city of Lestigue went in for her daily testing and was then pronounced pregnant. A few days later, the baby’s father went in for tests and was shocked to find his symptoms had vanished. He was the first to be cured. The baby was born on the 29th of September 2070. After his birth, he was taken away for extensive testing, and was found to be in perfect health. His mother was also found to be cured a few hours later. Using the small family’s DNA, over the next year, the whole of the sick population is cured and the baby is pronounced an international hero.
The world begins to recover from its losses and rebuild, and a baby boom is in full swing. In 2075, the UCE declares the world to be “back to a healthy state”. The population is almost at the same level as it was before the outbreak, and the economy is bouncing back. Then, in, 2084, a select few of the descendants of the formerly sick population start showing abnormal traits, such as flying, super strength, super speed, intangibility, telekinesis, elemental control (Pyrokinesis, hydrokenisis etc.), time manipulation, teleportation, invisibility and others.
These children were taken in for testing, but nothing could be done to remove their abilities, so they were released back into the general population. This caused riots as some people believed these children to be highly dangerous and a hazard to society. The children were attacked in the streets, their homes were burnt down or vandalised, and their families were forced to go into hiding, until the UCE passed the 2086 Surveillance and Nullification Act, which stated that all super powered people had to be under surveillance. Each powered person would have to have a power nullifier inserted into their left wrist and would need to report to a centre (formerly used as the Quarantine Zone) once a month to have their powers reviewed and their chips renewed. The penalty for not abiding the new laws was a goal term based on the extent and danger of the violator’s ability. This brought an end to the riots, but did not bring an end to the fear and prejudice that people felt towards the superpowered teenagers.
When the eldest group of the super powered teenagers reached the age of 18, in 2088, the UCE is divided in its choice to let them vote.
Three of the cities (Dayncam, Lestigue and Volker) grant their superpowered population the right to vote, and the other three (Edgehart, Claise and Traven) do not. The cities that allow the superpowered population to vote also abolish the 2086 Surveillance and Nullification Act. This causes mass migration among the members of the superpowered populace, and causes the population and economy of Edgehart, Claise, and Traven to plummet. To keep the Cities from war on July 17th 2090, the UCE split into two factions, the original title of UCE was given to Edgehart, Claise, and Traven, and the new title of United Citizens of the Three Cities (UCTC), was given to Dayncam, Lestigue and Volker. The split of the UCE meant that although those with superpowers who lived in the UCTC were safe, the UCTC had no influence over the actions of the UCE, and they could do nothing to stop the UCE when in 2093, the UCE hired bounty hunters to wipe out the remains of the superpowered population still living on UCE soil. This caused global outrage, as those with powers living in the UCE were still abiding the 2086 Surveillance and Nullification Act, and had no means to defend themselves. It only got worse as the UCE hunters started to spread into the UCTC to fake kills and get more payment. The hunt for two men in Dayncam caused most of the city to be ravaged by violent blizzards, turning Dayncam into the second coldest place on earth for the next 7 years. The Dayncam debacle causes more anti-power protests in Edgehart. The protests turn to riots and Edgehart becomes ravaged by its own outraged population, and World War Four begins when the UCE blames the UCTC for the Edgehart issue. To isolate Edgehart from its nearby enemy Volker, the UCE begins construction on a wall around the entire city of Edgehart in 2095. By 2099 every city except for Dayncam (which is almost uninhabited and nearly completely covered in melting snow and water) is surrounded by large walls to fend off their enemies and prevent coastal invasions. These walls proved quite handy when in 2101 the melting snow from Dayncam causes massive tidal waves, which would have eliminated most of the coastlines of the world if the walls had not protected the cities. The sea level of the earth in 2101 raises by 1.5% and the walls become the only thing protecting the cities from floods. The walls are then reinforced with new deep pressure technology to further protect the cities. The war continues for another 9 years, but is ended once and for all in 2110 when a soldier from Traven by the name of George ran out of bullets. Instead of reloading, George put down his weapon, stands up in his trench, and ends the war with his bare hands. He emerges from the war as the savior of super powered people and becomes the new world leader of earth and brings a message of peace between people with and without powers. The Cities are united once more under a new title The United Citizens of the Six Cities of Earth (UCSCE).
At the start of his reign, George declared it time to rebuild the robots and start taking steps to advance robot technology once more. At first this declaration was met with uneasiness, but when it became known that the new robots would be pacifists and would be all programmed to their own microchip technology, rather than being tuned to a singular robot satellite frequency, the people warmed to the idea considerably. The new race of robots known as micROBOTS were released for use on February 6th 2112, and they were widely accepted and popular. But you can’t please everyone, and on The 2nd of August 2112, a Human Supremacist group kidnapped George.
In January 2113, George’s body is found in an elevator shaft in a UCSCE building in Lestigue, apparently crushed to death. Later that night, his body vanishes off the examining table at the city morgue.
In 2115, Nanobots and Forcefields change the face of travel and comfort, creating cars out of Nanobots, and furniture from Forcefields. A year later, Holograms revolutionize the telecommunication industry.
The world is at peace in 2120, under the rule of a man named Devin who is fair and takes the job of ruling over the UCSCE very seriously. There are no wars and the super powered population; the non-powered population and the robot population live together in harmony. In the next 60 years the world becomes a Utopia, although not without its losses. The structural integrity of the great pyramids of Egypt is compromised and they crumble into dust and the Eiffel tower has been encased in a glass dome to keep it from rusting further.
In 2200, a meteor is seen flying over the City of Lestigue. It is reported that it crashed into the ocean somewhere nearby.
From 2220 – 2225 a group of supers known as the Juggernauts start to terrorize Lestigue city, which leads to the formation of the Special Forces, a team of supers in the Lestigue Police Department.
The age of peace ended in January 2275, when an Anti-Super Extremist group started riots in Traven to call for an end to integration. These riots will continue to the present day.
In 2295 mysterious sightings of an “Angel” above Lestigue start a new religious group called “The Believers”.
2300- Present Day and something isn’t right.
